As a City Index Professional trader, the more you trade with us, the more you will receive in monthly cash rebates. All rebates are calculated on a trade volume basis, with a monthly minimum of AU $50m in traded volume per calendar month for all assets excluding share CFDs, or AU $1.5m for share CFDs.
You will receive monthly rebates according to three tiers based on your traded volume for that month per asset class, including our new Tier 3 rebates, which offer rewards customised to your trading styles.
Rebates only apply to self-directed clients. Managed accounts, and accounts referred by an Introducing Broker are not eligible. The rebate is capped at AU $20,000 monthly per account, per qualifying client.
Ready to upgrade to a Professional Account?
If you meet criteria in either A, B or C you qualify for a City Index Professional account:
You meet 1 of the following:
i) $2.5m in net assets OR
ii) $250k income for the past 2 years.
You meet 2 of the following:
i) a minimum of 40 significantly sized leveraged trades per year*
ii) your portfolio, assets and investments exceed $250k**,
iii) worked in a professional position in the financial sector for at least 1 year.
You pass a knowledge test, and your annual gross salary is greater than 125K, and meet 1 of the following 3 criteria:
i) a minimum of 40 significantly sized leveraged trades per year*
ii) your portfolio, assets and investments exceed $250K**,
iii) worked in a professional position in the financial sector for at least 1 year.

Professional Trading Account FAQs
What are the requirements of a Professional trader?
We have three Professional accounts available. To apply for Professional account A (wholesale), you need to have one of the following:
- Net assets of AU$2.5 million
- A gross income for each of the last two financial years of at least A$250,000
To qualify for Professional account B (sophisticated), you must meet two of the following three criteria:
- To have made a minimum of at least 40 significantly sized leveraged trades per year*
- To currently have a financial portfolio in excess of $250,000**
- To have worked in a professional capacity in the financial sector for 1+ years
To qualify for Professional account C (sophisticated), you must pass a knowledge test, and your annual gross salary is greater than 125K, and meet one of the following three criteria:
- To have made a minimum of at least 40 significantly sized leveraged trades per year*
- To currently have a financial portfolio in excess of $250,000**
- To have worked in a professional position in the financial sector for 1 years

When calculating your net assets remember to include the following: Your home, other properties/land, superannuation, trusts, shares, other investments, savings, value of business, car/boat/other vehicle.
Before you consider trading professionally, we’d recommend ensuring that you have strong experience of the markets, a track record of success, enough time to dedicate to trading and a clear plan. A Professional trading account gives you access to higher leverage and flexible margins but doesn’t feature many of the protections that come with a standard account – including negative balance protection.

What are the features of a City Index Professional account?
The features of a City Index Professional account include margin rates from 0.5%, monthly cash rebates, market execution support, interest-free credit facilities, a dedicated relationship manager and unique fee structures.
When trading commodities, for example, standard accounts are limited to 10% margin. As a Professional trader, that drops to just 1%.
